W-L Poetry Out Loud School Winner Erin Klein advances to Virginia State Final

Congratulations to Washington-Liberty senior Erin Klein, who won her regional semifinal Poetry Out Loud competition on February 17, 2024.

Erin won the W-L Poetry Out Loud schoolwide competition on December 7, 2023, to qualify for the regional semifinals, and with this victory proceeds on to the Virginia State Poetry Out Loud Final. That competition will be held in person on March 8 at the Wayne Theatre in Waynesboro, VA. Erin wowed judges with her performances of poems “How to Break a Curse” by Danielle Boodoo-Fortuné and “Ashes of Life” by Edna St. Vincent Millay.

Poetry Out Loud is a nationwide poetry recitation competition for students in grades 9-12 supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. We’re proud of you, Erin! Good luck at States!
