Group 2:  Language acquisition IB Arabic, Chinese/Mandarin, French, Latin, or Spanish IB Arabic, Chinese/Mandarin, French, Latin, or Spanish
Group 3:  Individuals & societies IB History of the Americas (HOA) or Group 3 electives: Business & Management, Economics, Geography, Global Politics, Philosophy, Psychology, Social & Cultural Anthropology IB Topics in 20th Century World History or Group 3 electives: Business & Management, Economics, Geography, Global Politics, Philosophy, Psychology, Social & Cultural Anthropology
Group 4:  Science IB Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science,  Physics, Sports Exercise and Health Science, or Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS is block of two periods in one year) IB Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science,  Physics, Sports Exercise and Health Science, or Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS is block of two periods in one year)

IB REQUIREMENT NOTES:

  • A student may earn a bilingual diploma by taking two group 1 subjects (one in English and one in Spanish).
  • Students may take up to two one-year courses.
  • Students may take up to two exams at the end of their junior year.
  • Specific schedules in grades 11 and 12 will reflect each student’s personal options.

NOTES ON VIRGINIA DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS:

  • USVA History – IB History of the Americas (HOA) fulfills this Virginia diploma requirement.
  • Economics & Personal Finance (EPF) – IB Economics fulfills this Virginia diploma requirment.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR A FULL IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME SCHEDULE

  • 6 IB courses spread out over the groups identified above.
  • Level of courses:
    • 3 higher level (HL) courses & 3 standard level (SL) courses; or
    • 4 HL courses & 2 SL courses.
  • Full IB diploma students must take one subject from each subject groups (1-5) plus a sixth class from any group. (Two IB Math classes are not allowed.)
  • Virginia diploma requirements must be met (i.e. Economics, US History, US Government)

NOTE:  IB DP courses are two-year courses, spread out over 11th & 12th grades.
