In early March, W-L junior Harriet Shapiro will be one of just four high school students representing the Commonwealth of Virginia as a delegate to the 2023 meeting of the American Junior Academy of Sciences (AJAS). Her invitation to participate in AJAS was based on her performance at the 2022 Virginia Junior Academy of Science (VJAS) Research Symposium.
Harriet’s research project, “The Effect of Urban Heat Island Mitigation Strategy on Surface and Atmospheric Temperature,” was a first-place section award winner in Earth & Environmental Science at VJAS 2022 and the number three ranked project in the conference as a whole.
