2023 Teacher of the Year & Support Person of the Year

Congratulating Ms. Danielle Day as the 2023-2024 Washington-Liberty High School Teacher of the Year.

Ms. Day Danielle earned her Masters in special education and a certificate in applied behavior analysis, better known as ABA, and now is the lead teacher of the Secondary Program for Student with Autism (SPSA) at Washington-Liberty High School and Co-Department Chair for Special Education.  Danielle is extremely committed to her students, their families at Washington-Liberty High School. She attends dances and school events on the weekend with her students who participate in SPSA, takes them on field trips around the DMV and holds special holiday parties where she helps her students plan all aspects of the event, including creating invitations for guests (usually other school and district staff and parents), setting up activities and shopping for and preparing the food. Danielle maintains a close relationship with the parents of her students, working with them for all of a student’s high school years (and beyond in some cases) walking side by side through the ups and downs of teenage life. Danielle makes the job look easy delivering charm, cheer and sunshine in abundance, but when you talk with her about any aspect of her job, you learn quickly that she has a level of wisdom and expertise that is unparalleled. Danielle is someone you can always count on for guidance and support. She is a superstar educator who is loved by her colleagues.

Mr. Bidkar Jimenez is the 2023-2024 Washington-Liberty High School Support Person of the Year. Bidkar started his career at W-L working in the Office of the Assistant Principals. There, he worked supporting the W-L Admin Team, students, and parents. Students say that “Mr. Bidkar” is always cool and helpful. Colleagues note that Bidkar is always willing to go the extra mile to support when information is needed.  Bidkar tranistioned to the Office of Counseling/Student Services in 2022-2023. There he quickly became an asset where master scheduling, transcripts, student visits to counseling, welcoming new families to W-L via personal tours are concerned. For those who step into the counseling office he immediately greets people with a smile and a can do spirit that makes everyone feel welcomed.

If you would like to add to the letters of support for Danielle and or Bidkar for APS Teacher of the Year or Support Person of the Year, please forward any additional letters to antonio.hall@apsva.us by 3 PM on Friday, December 1, 2023.
