Generals Collect Numerous Distinctions at VHSL Media Championship

Virginia High School League (VHSL) held their annual Media Championships, at which publications and individual journalism students receive awards for the previous school year.

The W-L 2018 – 2019 publications did very well, with the Crossed Sabres newspaper receiving a “Trophy Class” designation. This is the highest level of distinction that can be awarded to a publication in the state. Washington – Liberty HS was one of only three newspapers in the state to be awarded this distinction. W-L HS last received a “Trophy Class” accolade in 2015.

The Blue & Gray yearbook, Penman Literary Magazine, and Crossed Sabres online website each received a “First Class” designation, and our broadcast program received a “Second Class” designation.

First place in the Commonwealth of Virginia for Opinion Article is award to sophomore Grace Gent, for her piece “A Year After Parkland“. The article was published in the March 2019 edition of the Crossed Sabres newspaper and online.
