September is Suicide Prevention Month – Recognize. Talk. Act.

National “Suicide Prevention Month” comes to a close please with mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies and community members have united to promote suicide prevention awareness throughout the nation. As a goal to raise awareness about the signs of suicide, how to access help during a crisis, and lethal means restrictions, we will be handing out yellow ribbons at school on Monday, September 30, 2019.

The counseling team plans to build our W-L HS “Sources of Strength” and a “Signs of Suicide” program in the coming weeks to conduct daily work to support students in emotional distress. Everyone struggles with emotional pain at some point in their lives. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to know when someone is suffering and needs help. Some people struggling may find it too difficult to talk or ask for help. People who are suffering in silence often have feelings of shame, isolation and hopelessness.

If you’re interested in joining either of W-L suicide prevention program please see your counselor and explain you’d like to learn more. Recognize. Talk. Act. is a social marketing campaign aimed at preventing suicide in Virginia. For more resources, please visit: https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/suicide-prevention/.”
